If only the rooms could speak ...
It has been our pleasure to visit your abode, as we meet our friends from the Heather House, Marine City. We ate hearty and well at the Common Grill, teased ourselves with the artwork in the galleries, and were mesmerized by the Purple Rose’s introduction of the play Let It Be.
However, your house is the piece de resistance! It is a masterful restoration, and we will be back, especially after the scrumptious breakfast!
A wrong turn brought us to Chelsea the first time last year, but this time we are strictly here as planned to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary.
Thanks to Jim for helping us make arrangements at the Purple Rose Theater and Common Grill. We so enjoyed the trip into Ann Arbor to experience the Farmers Market & Kerrytown, great acoustic guitar player at Zou Zou’s, and the energetic folks at Cleary’s Pub. Chelsea has a lot to offer!
We adored our restful stay at the Inn and I hope to return again. The company at breakfast was delightful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your lovely home! The added special touches of robes, slippers, and the turning down of the bed with chocolates on our pillows was just wonderful! This was a very relaxing and enjoyable “first evening out” from our terrific 15 month old son. We look forward to returning in the future to enjoy your hospitality and delicious food! (The crepes are amazing – as is all the food!)
What a delightful break from an endless succession of “business” hotels. Too many nights away from home makes me crave the comforts of an inviting inn like Chelsea House. Back on the road tomorrow – refreshed with a night of porch swings, feather pillows, and church bells. Heaven.
Ahhhh! What a wonderful house … and a wonderful sleep … and wonderful breakfasts. We wanted a weekend get-a-way from the stresses of our daily routine and Chelsea has given us the weekend fun and quite we longed for. The great play at the Purple Rose Theater last night, Norma & Wanda, was a good beginning to our Chelsea experience. Our overnight stay is all we hoped for. Soon we will start our walking and shopping tour, quenching our thirst with small town experiences. We’ve had a great winter break!
My husband brought me to the Chelsea House as a surprise getaway without our three children. And what a surprise it was. This B&B has been the best B&B we have ever stayed in. From the lovely room and sitting area, to the hospitality of Jim and Kim, every aspect of our stay was wonderful. And with Jim's help, we enjoyed a great dinner at the Common Grill and caught an intimate play at the Purple Rose Theater.
So, we are sad to leave our little retreat, but if we stayed any longer we would have to buy larger clothes to accommodate the delicious breakfasts.
This is our 2nd trip to the Chelsea House just because. We love the hospitality, the quaint town, and this wonderful room. It's snowing outside, but the fire inside is toasty warm and the duvet cover kept us as snug as a bug. It's like a storybook stay!
Thanks for bringing a bit of relaxation to our very busy
This was a mid-week get-a-way for my husband and I. We came with 4 other couples and filled all the rooms for Jim & Kim. The house has so much charm, warmth, and love in its walls. After a lovely dinner at the Common Grill and an intense play at the Purple Rose, we enjoyed each other's company in the parlor. It was a step back into the elegance of "yesterday".
A most relaxing and gracious experience. Thank you, Jim & Kim.
Spent a lovely morning relaxing in the Glazier Room at Jim & Kim's Chelsea B&B. Looking forward to breakfast adventures shortly ... by the aromas wafting up the stairs, they're sure to be breakfast delights! Yesterday we explored the town and enjoyed Hope for Corky at the Purple Rose. Followed up this experience with a 5-star (?) dinner at the Common Grill. Everything about this town and the hospitality of Jim & Kim will have us back soon for a repeat experience!
Good medicine, this!
Great B&B. Beautiful rooms – what a great restoration! Nice touches in each room. Truly a getaway, close to town but has such a homey, warm feel. Jim, a remarkable host – made us feel like “family” rather than “renters”. The food, breakfast was wonderful. Best crepes and Blueberry French Toast.
What a treasure little Chelsea is. Continued good luck in its preservation – worth all your hard hours. Loved the Common Grill – worth the drive!
This short trip away from home has been absolutely amazing – I have never felt quite this relaxed and pampered after such a short time. My husband and I are here on our first wedding anniversary – I think this beats our honeymoon in the Caribbean as far as accommodations, if nothing else. From the minute we walked in the door we have been treated as “VIPs” – Jim & Kim go out of their way to make their guests comfortable and pampered. The room was amazing – the bed was so comfortable, the fireplace really gave an ambiance of romance. The amenities – robe, slippers, refreshments – they really set this apart from other places. Breakfast was great and the conversation with Jim & Kim was like talking with old friends. We will definitely be back – the Chelsea House will be another yearly tradition for us! Thanks Jim & Kim for allowing us 2 days away from the monotony and rush of our “normal” days – this was truly fantastic!
P.S. – The Common Grill was tremendous and the Purple Rose Theatre was fantastic. Highly recommend the two!
Thank you for your wonderful hospitality in your beautiful home. The restoration work you have done is incredible! The room was very warm and cozy – I loved the fireplace! The breakfast was delicious. It was truly a special birthday celebration. We’ll definitely be back.
We had a wonderful stay in this surprisingly luxurious home away from home. The Carriage House should be renamed “The Love Nest.” It was the perfect place to celebrate our 4th year of marriage.
Dinner at the Grill was amazing (try the crème brulee trio for dessert), the bath tub was a vacation in itself (bubble bath is a must), and all of the thoughtful details were greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jim & Kim, we’ll be back!
One reaches a point in their lifetime when they notice the water at their bedside, the quality of the mattress (the Ghirardelli chocolates!) and all the touches that show the care and attention to detail that really matters. We noticed and appreciated each and every one, as it’s the small things that count – in addition to wonderful accommodations.
We came to Chelsea to celebrate our 9th anniversary. We live only a county away – in Pinckney – but it felt like a million miles. This place is the perfect getaway – romantic, comfortable, and cozy. The Good Doctor was so very entertaining and meeting the actors was a special treat. The Common Grill was worth the wait. Thank you. Thank you for a fantastic getaway weekend.
We are here in Chelsea to have our family Christmas. What a wonderful weekend and a wonderful place to stay. The house is so beautifully decorated with so many beautiful poinsettias, ribbons, bangles, and bows. So very elegant! Jim and Kim’s hospitality is the finest and the breakfasts served right here in the Carriage House were great. They must have a connection with the weather man, too, as we awoke to new fallen snow … a white Christmas! Perfect!
I finally found it! The best B&B we have ever found – Chelsea is one of our favorite small towns in the USA. Of course, having our daughter and family here is extra special. The special designs of the house, keeping with the period of the time is wonderful. So glad there are people like you! Your touches and friendliness are beyond the norm!
Wow! What a well-needed respite after spending 3 days with 9 hockey teams at the Best Western. Although the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea was great, it was so wonderful to be swallowed up by the peace, quiet, and comfort of the Inn. We want to take the bed home with us. Don’t miss the Common Grill food. Breakfast here was delicious as usual. This is our second visit and we can’t wait to return. The Jacuzzi was unbelievable.
I’m an actor in town attending classes at the Purple Rose … the staff there recommended the Chelsea House Inn and I will be forever grateful for that recommendation. I have stayed in presidential suite penthouses, European castles, and the fanciest hotels – but none hold a candle to this place! It’s not just a place to stay, it truly is a home away from home. Jim and Kim have been the most gracious hosts – I feel like we’re related (and I wish I was!). The attention to details, and the personalized service make this place a memory I shall always cherish. And if (God willing) I ever give up the single life, I know this is where I’ll be coming!
This has been a delightful introduction to a B&B stay – my first such in a long life of many travels. I look forward to other such experiences and hope they measure up to the standards of Chelsea House.
The snowfall has added to the beauty of this lovely small town and made it easy to imagine oneself in a previous century – but with today’s comforts. The warmth and kindness of the hosts has softened the ache of a very changed Christmas.
A beautiful, warm night, the crickets and katydids trilling away. I am rocking in the rocker, contemplating and marveling at such a fun weekend with perfect 80 degree, blue-sky days. And tonight, the harvest moon. My sister and I were here a year ago, I am delighted to be back here again. Different cast of family characters, just as much fun and hilarity.
Life is good, Jim & Kim, a stay here at your Inn makes it even better. I love just sitting in “my” room or the downstairs and savoring all of the detail. The Chelsea Inn is an island of calm amidst hustle and bustle of life. Thank you!
What hidden treasures both Chelsea and this Inn are! We ended up here because we planned to visit Ann Arbor during a weekend that was both the Purdue game and Parents’ Weekend – so everything was sold out in town – but now that we’ve been here, we’d always come back to Chelsea rather than Ann Arbor! We love the historic charm of Main Street, Zou Zou’s Saturday night music, the Chelsea Market … the feeling of a real town without a single chain store!
And thank you, Jim, for your hospitality – we couldn’t have asked for a better host.
The original occupants of the Chelsea House in the late 1880s would be quite pleased to see that the following accommodations have been made true: (This is what impressed me most during one one-night first-time B&B experience.)
- The ornate front porch restored for many social occasions with such detailed painting techniques used,
- The sound of the hall clock and the whistle of the train passing by at night,
- The special touches at breakfast – the pecans in the waffles and Jim’s entertaining stories,
- The way the house looks at night as one is strolling by in the summer, knowing that inside, the bed has been turned down, the shades have been drawn, and the house and occupants are at peace for the evening. Very welcoming scenario. Thank you, Jim & Kim for your charming hospitality.
its awesome and you will not want to leave!
